Lakeland - Kendal Distribution Centre

On the edge of the Lake District National Park, this is a very unusual version of a building type that is often very utilitarian. The first Phase in 1994 was a simple but fully serviced distribution centre; the second phase added a large high-bay warehouse, and the third phase added extensive picking and packing areas, offices and high-specced staff welfare, all built on stilts over a flood plain. A 4th phase, adding further loading bays, warehousing and extensive office space was planned but to date remains unbuilt.
