PROJECTS

We have worked across many sectors over the years, and this page can only give a brief overview of them all. Our portfolio ranges from the smallest house extension or alteration to multi-million pound award winning commercial schemes, from sensitive work on listed buildings to the bold and new. Many houses, a library, an Arts Centre, workshops, offices, warehousing, hotels, churches and schools - our output has been highly diverse and well received.

Domestic Projects

Extensions and Alterations
It’s easy to know there’s something missing in our homes, and we often have a good idea what we would like. But being able to see what is possible, practical or most appropriate for you can be a lot harder. This is where we come in – we can help you through the process, hopefully giving you a better result and less frustration than you ever imagined. Work on a new house extension at Void Architecture

New Builds
We’ve all seen Grand Designs, but in reality building plots are rare, often awkward, and come with a whole lot of different requirements. But the potential is great; we have done a couple of schemes for small developers and a local charity, and are always happy to look at more. It’s a great opportunity to get something truly unique and reflecting your needs.

Commercial Projects

We have worked closely with local owners and landlords on several projects, updating and extending light industrial spaces and offices. We have also looked at conversions or alterations to suit the needs of a changing market.

We have been lucky enough to work with two prestigious companies on several unique and complex projects. Spirax Sarco, who are a large manufacturer in Cheltenham. And Lakeland, the well known kitchenware company, on shops from Truro to Handforth, and their headquarters in Windermere and distribution centre in Kendal.

Lakeland
Working with Hanson Walford Marston in Kendal we designed several schemes over many years, including 4 phases of work in Kendal, and the unique and award winning headquarters and shop in Windermere. Notable for being highly prominent buildings in a National Park these schemes helped Lakeland grow to the much loved company it is today.

"An attractive and successful project which combines exciting and contemporary design with the building’s location in the historic and rural setting of the Lake District….. This building sets a standard for contemporary intervention in a highly sensitive landscape."
- Civic Trust Award

Spirax Sarco
Our re-development of an old 1960s engineering works to create their new Test Facility. This was completed in 2011, and included a reception for their whole site. As part of a comprehensive redevelopment this gave them facilities well suited to a role as their centre for global research.

Not for Profit Work

We have had many interesting projects, working closely with arts centres, churches and charities around Gloucestershire.

Charities
We have ongoing work with St. Vincent's and St. George's Association, a thriving charity supporting adults with complex physical and learning disabilities. For them we have worked on new supported living accommodation, activity provision and ongoing maintenance. There is also the exciting new venture, The Portland, a social enterprise providing training opportunities in a historic B&B.

"Exceeded expectations in every category and our expectations were high! Beautiful building, wonderful staff, fabulous location and a heart-warming social enterprise... Really liked the cleanliness, comfort and style..."

Prema Arts Centre
A small rural arts centre housed in a listed Baptist Chapel. We have completed several projects to increase the flexibility of the building and safeguard its fabric for many years to come. These include improving disabled access, renovating and reorganising, improving the circulation, acoustics and thermal performance.

"Thank you for making the project so easy for us... the project was an utter delight with very few moments of stress - I’m acutely aware that it could have been a very different story... So thank you."
- Gordon Scott, artistic director

Churches
We have worked on several projects at All Saints Church, Highbury Church and the local Friends Meeting House. All in Cheltenham these are small, but vital and much appreciated schemes. The emphasis has been on careful alteration, working closely with the building fabric and the congregation’s needs.

Design for Ecohub
Planet Cheltenham
Most recently we've have been working on the Planet Cheltenham scheme for a new Ecohub development in Cheltenham. This is a very exciting project intended as a permanent base for Cheltenham's own community action hub. Fitted into a diverse and dense area of Victorian terraces, it is designed as an exemplar building to inform and inspire as we move us towards Zero Carbon.
We understand how difficult it can be when considering your project, but the process of building and renovating is what we do everyday. So we have designed resources to be a starting point for your ideas, to help you make the next steps in your creative adventure....
