Little Orchard, Stanton

An unusual 1930's thatched cottage in a very desirable village - the project was to extend the kitchen and bedroom, and rationalise the bathroom/s. The low, overhanging eaves, combined with the slope of the ground, made daylight difficult.

The final scheme, after many sketches, combined some thatched extension, with a shallow monopitch green roof, and a flat roof with lantern over the entrance hall. This allowed us to get light deep into the plan, by getting windows high into the new gable end and bouncing light into the hall.
